Quantifiers – “Some” and “Any”

Solving the workbook today, I discovered that I still have some difficulties with some basic topics of English, one of this are the quantifiers “any” and “some”. So I want to view this topic another time. I searched and here are my notes.

• Both are used before nouns. Obvious, because quantifiers quantify nouns!

some	Affirmative sentences	I want some pencils
	Questions, if the answer that you wish is a “yes”	Would you like some more water? Could I have some beer, please?
any	Negative sentences.	He doesn’t have any friends in Viçosa.
	Questions	Have you got any pencils?
	After words with negative meaning as “never”, “hardly”, “without” and others.	You never give me any support.

I have until Friday for I give my workbook ready for the teacher. I think that I won´t get finishing it until there. I have a big problem. I prefer lose the points that do my tasks of whatever way and I only get doing the things when I want, I am willing. Let´s see if I get to do it until Friday.

"Little" and "Few"

Until now, I reserved my diary to do commentaries about classes and the way how I have improved the classes.

Today I wanna talk about Grammar.

I would like to speak about quanfiers, especially about “few”, “little”, “a few”and “a little”.

Some examples of use:

Positive Way	a few	I´ve got a few friends.	maybe not many, but enough
	a little	I've got a little money.	I've got enough to live on
Negative Way	few	Few people visited him in hospital.	he had almost no visitors
	little	He had little money.	almost no money

Before much time... new post!

I neither know more what was the last time that I wrote my diary.This is something that I already expected to happen when the end of semester arrived.
The last class was the second oral test. We read a book as homework and out task was talk about story to the teacher. Before this, we had to elaborating a abstract about the book, but I just read the book.
Because of this I think that I didn´t go very well in the test. I hope I’m wrong.

Friday, Friday, Friday...

Last Friday, the class was very dynamic.
The main activity was into pairs. My partner this time was Tiago. The task was writing advices to help to deal with some problems suggested in the book. After this, the teacher asked to exchange advice with each other and rectify the wrongs of our colleagues. It was last class of this week! Now just rest!

Another Lesson...

Today, I arrived well before beggining the class.
The main lesson was on “First Conditional”. We learned that “First Conditional” has the following form: if + simple present + may/might or will. An example: If you don´t sleep at night, you will sleep at class. After, we read a article on quitting smoking.
The article says that a person who wants to stop smoking needs changing your routine. In this way, if this person always start your day with coffee and a cigarrete, helps if it goes jogging instead, for example.
Maybe because I slept a little during the class, the class passed quickly. Thanks God! I confess I was lazy.

After holiday, we returned to have class.

After a good holiday, we returned to have class. At the beginning of class, the teacher as he always does, asked to organize ourselves into pairs to talk about our holiday. This time, I sat with Terezinha. Terezinha is doing a degree in Business at UFV. She was on holiday at a farm near her hometown. She said her weekend was very good and she didn´t study over the weekend, even taking a test on Thursday. Normal! After this, we talked about “quit smoke”, theme of Unit 4, Lesson 1. We had a good conversation. Because of the conversations, the class ended quickly. GoodBye!

First Month is gone.

The first month of the third level English course is gone and I have improved a lot in this language. Every day I feel more secure to talk things in English, and this is very good! However, I have been slowly losing time to study as I had been studying.
The class today was very good. Incredibly I arrived in class in time. The teacher proposed a task for the weekend. He divided the class into pairs and he asked us to exchange emails between ourselves. One person would be the host, and another would be the guest. My pair was Gustavo. I am with his email and I will be the guest.
As I didn´t go to class yesterday, at the end of class, I asked about the song that he passed in last class. I confess that I didn´t pay attention in class because I was sleepy.

Friday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday - All together!

In recent days, I don´t have had time to do my diary. I think since Friday that I don´t write my daily how I was doing. Will be that I already am staying bored with the course? I wait that no! I am going to try remind what happened in the last lessons.
Well, I didn´t go in last class (Wednesday) because my mastermind had marked a meeting with his students through of a email, but actually, he only had advised when he would be available in his office for any needs. As I understood the wrong way, I didn´t go to English class.
Today I met with Débora, english´s classmate, and she told me what the teacher had given in class. She says that Samuel had finished the Unit 1 of the book and had started the second unit.
In last class that I went(tuesday), the teacher, between other things, explained about following words: either, neither, whole and both. He gave a paper with notes about this.
On Monday was the day of the song. This time, the song was more difficult to understand.
On Friday, it was a day of to talk the meaning of a word of the song. This was a good activity, because it is more easier to know the meaning of a word when you have the same applied in a sentence.

Writing 1 - People that change.

There are several people that were very important in my life besides my family. One of this people was Lorena. Lorena is a school classmate's mother that was fundamental in some decisions that I took before I came to Viçosa.
When I arrived in last year of school, I was wanting a lot continue my studing in a college. Because this, I was studying a lot, but I didn´t know what I needed to do to join in a university. When I did ENEM test, I got a very good note. Lorena stayed knowing of my performance and wanted to have a conversation with me. We talk a lot about university, opportunities e other things. She showed some options and helped to discover how to do for I get my goal and besides helped me financially. Thanks to her, I managed to entry in UFV, being that I had opportunity to entry in others colleges as UnB and UEG.
This can look a little silly, but this help was very important in my life. My family don't have much study, I hadn´t information. Meeting anybody that indicated me the road and supported of every ways possible was essential for I reach my goal. Because this, she is one of the people more important of my life.

First Lesson!

For first time this semester, I got to arrive in time in the class. Yesterday we studied the first lesson of the book. Since some people yet don´t had bought the book, the students were organized into pairs. This time, my pair was Débora. Presentions were not necessary since I had known her at a party at my home. For today only!

Second Class: Performances and music.

Yesterday, There was other english class. Again I arrived late in class. When I arrived, the teacher had sliced the class into groups of two colleagues. My classmate was Tiago, a old mate since we studied together in other level, I think until that was with the same teacher of now. In this class was possible to know the other classmates. Was a interesting activity that helped to recall somethings of other levels. At the end of class the teacher put a music and we listened. As homework, we stayed of choose some word that we didn´t know the meaning , discovering its meaning and a application in a phrase. Tomorrow, somebody will present their word for whole class.

Journal - First Day of class.

Today was the first day of English class in the second half of 2010.
As usual, I arrived late more one time. This is a old habit that I have to lose.
The teacher has already been preparated for the delay of the students, and when I arrived he still had not started the class.
When he begun the class, he said about your teach style and other things.
There wasn´t presentations.
I think that the teacher decided to wait the next class, when more students are in class to do this.
In this semester, I am more animated. I think that I will get to improve my English a lot, I hope!
