Word of the day: Censorship

Yesterday I was listening to another The Word Nerd podcast Episode. This time, the theme was Irony and Satire. I’m newbie in English language, so when I listen to a podcast, if I understand more or less about what they are talking, and the subject interests me, I search about it to understand better about what they are talking.
It happens that in a determined moment they started to talk about censorship to comedians. I didn’t know the meaning of censorship word and so I decided to search about.
According to The FreeDictionary, censorship is
deleting parts of publications or correspondence or theatrical performances.
Knowing about what was it, I treated to go to Wikipedia read some article about this theme.
Two points that attracted me in this article were map censorship and educational sources censorship. Reading Wikipedia article I figure out that Google Maps sometimes doesn’t show some areas in the world because some motive that I haven't identified yet. I’m a computer science men and this call me attention. About educational sources censorship Wikipedia said that “The reporting of military atrocities in history is extremely controversial, as in the case of The Holocaust ( or Holocaust denial), Bombing of Dresden, the Nanking Massacre as found with Japanese history textbook controversies, …” Reading this, I was curious about how Americans teach about Hiroshima Bomb. Certain, it’s a bit controversy.
Well, I intend search about this two themes and show the results here, how a way to train my written. If you met mistakes (I’m certain that you met) in this little text, help me showing me them. Be confortable to comment about the text, I will be very happy! Thanks!

PodCasts Experience FeedBack

My study about english language didn't stop, but I haven't had time to work on. Lately, I have dedicated to my listening. To improve my ability to understand persons talking in english, I had taken some attitudes like:
  • Listen english songs.
  • Listen english podcasts.
Podcasts in english were my discovered of this semester. After I bought a smartphone, it became more easier listen them. So, I treated to put a dozen of them to listen randomly. Among a music and other, I always have a podcast to listen. Large part of the time, I'm not paying atention to what they are saying, but I feel that my contact with idiom is increasing, and I'm each time more able to understand the language. It's weird when I'm distracted and suddenly I understand some part of conversation, or even, whole conversation. After I began to listen podcasts, I have payed more attention to musics. Sometimes I get the meaning without difficulty. I believe that I improved much.
When I began to listen podcasts, I searched by issues that I liked like business and music. I downloaded some episodes of Word Nerds podcast. The last one, until now, offered the more atractives episodes.  The best part, it's that is an english podcast made to english citizens. They talk about rules, curiositys, interesting words, and discuss randomic themes. They are still funny. Another advantage is that the episodes are well edited, with good songs between parts. I liked much, perhaps someone likes too. Link to the "Word Nerds" podcast is http://thewordnerds.org/.

Enjoy it!

PS: If you read until here and you have any suggestion or  met any mistake, help-me commenting my postage! Thanks!!!

8-80 behavior

8-80 lifestyle is a way that some people use to conduct their lives. It’s characterized by difficulty in take attitudes with equity.

Either they study much, or don’t study, too rushed or too slow, too passive or too active. Their attitudes don't requite with situation. People like that never take an attitude but when they decide to do something, they do things in intensity above normal. They can react like one lion or like one lamb in same situation. I, for example, always accept other persons make jokes about me. When I decide to take action, I always hit it back intensity above normal and I am fighting with the other person.

I realized that I’m one of these persons when one friend suggested this name to my way to face the world. He began to talk about it and I agreed. I was obligated to agree that my main problems were result of this behavior all-or-nothing!

Because of this, I already fought awfully with my best friends, spent the night studying for exams that didn’t need much or I did go wrong in tests because I didn’t study anything. I usually have enough troubles because of this behavior.

The moment when I decided to try to change was when I was without to talk to a friend because an excessive attitude that I took. I realized that I needed to balance more my attitudes to suffer less with lack or excess of attitude. Sometimes I think that I need to stray from others to avoid suffer with lack or excess of attitude, but this would be an 8-80 behavior too. Learning to live with this trouble without taking precipitated decisions is one way to fight against this trouble. It’s necessary to let being fool and boring and willing to fight. Yes, I can!

I searched about it in Internet and I discovered that there is a psychological trouble called “borderline” whose diagnosis is seemed with what I said, but more intense. When I searched, I was scared but I think that is not my case, I hope.

I have thought about what I can do to avoid this behavior, but without success. At least I’m conscious about the trouble and aware with manifestations of this behavior. I’m right that I can control my feelings in way that I will not suffer their effects.

Quantifiers – “Some” and “Any”

Solving the workbook today, I discovered that I still have some difficulties with some basic topics of English, one of this are the quantifiers “any” and “some”. So I want to view this topic another time. I searched and here are my notes.

  • Both are used before nouns. Obvious, because quantifiers quantify nouns!

some

Affirmative sentences

I want some pencils

Questions, if the answer that you wish is a “yes”

Would you like some more water?

Could I have some beer, please?

any

Negative sentences.

He doesn’t have any friends in Viçosa.

Questions

Have you got any pencils?

After words with negative meaning as “never”, “hardly”, “without” and others.

You never give me any support.

In short, this is it! Enjoy!

I have until Friday for I give my workbook ready for the teacher. I think that I won´t get finishing it until there. I have a big problem. I prefer lose the points that do my tasks of whatever way and I only get doing the things when I want, I am willing. Let´s see if I get to do it until Friday.

Bye!

After this, the teacher asked to exchange advice with each other and rectify the wrongs of our colleagues. It was last class of this week! Now just rest!
